career

Youth in Nigeria and Freiburg

In his native Nigeria, Uzoma played for Eleme United . At the age of 15 he came to Germany, where he soon found himself in a dormitory for asylum seekers in Müllheim . His guardian recognized his footballing talent and helped him to get a game permit for the B-youth of the district division Alemannia Müllheim. In December 2005 he switched to the football school of SC Freiburg , where he first played as a striker. Over time, Uzoma was used more and more back, after having played a few games as a playmaker, he finally played in defensive midfield.

Beginnings in professional football

Uzoma in training, 2010

When the Freiburg professional team had too few players available for a training match in September 2007, the vacancies were filled with a few A youth players. Uzoma coach Robin Dutt was so convincing that he called him to the starting line-up for the upcoming second division game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . Uzoma's performance in the 3-2 win against Hoffenheim resulted in a long-term professional contract and the election of the "kicker team of the day". He scored his first second division three weeks later in Cologne , and the long-range shot was voted “Goal of the Week” by the viewers of the sports show . During the winter break of 2007/08, the kicker sports magazine Uzoma was the third best defensive midfielder in the 2nd Bundesliga, behind Daniel Gunkel and Patrick Paauwe . In addition to Ivica Banović , Uzoma remained in the defensive midfield in the following months, the targeted promotion missed the sports club in 5th place. Uzoma also missed the final of the German A youth championship in 2008 : after appearing several times late for training, he was removed from the final squad.

Also at the beginning of the second division season 2008/09 Uzoma belonged to the permanent staff of the Breisgauer, but lost this place at the turn of the year to Johannes Flum and Julian Schuster . At the end of the season, Freiburg was promoted to the first division as a second division champion , up to which point Uzoma had played a total of 50 second division games for Freiburg. In the summer of 2009, Uzoma received an invitation from the Nigerian Football Association. He briefly trained with Nigeria's U-20 team before being pulled up to the senior team . However, since he was injured, he could not be used in the upcoming internationals. This injury was also a setback for him at SC Freiburg, Uzoma was only a substitute player in his first Bundesliga season. By the winter break he had four short assignments. With the first of these short appearances, on October 24, 2009, he became the 5,000th player in the Bundesliga.

Change to Munich

For the second half of the 2009/10 season he was loaned to the second division TSV 1860 Munich , for whom he played six times. An agreed purchase option left the Sechzger pass though the end of the season, at the beginning of the new season but they agreed with SC Freiburg on a free transfer free transfer to Munich. Uzoma signed a two-year contract. In the first half of the 2010/11 season was only used in the first two games of the season. For the second half of the season he was loaned to the league competitor Arminia Bielefeld , where he was used ten times. In April 2011 he received an invitation to the Nigerian U-23 selection for the Olympic qualifying game against Equatorial Guinea, but had to cancel his participation due to injury.

In summer 2011 Uzoma returned to Munich. Since coach Reiner Maurer did not plan with him, however, he has since trained with the regional league team of the Lions , for which he was not allowed to play as a Nigerian. After he had not been used for the whole season, he left TSV 1860 in the summer of 2012. He described the time in Munich as “God's test”.

New start in Hungary and a detour to Sandhausen

In mid-July 2012 Uzoma then signed a two-year contract with an option for another year with the Hungarian first division club Pécsi Mecsek FC . He played for Pécsi Mecsek FC in the 2012/13 season and until the winter break of the 2013/14 season . He then moved back to Germany and signed a contract with the second division club SV Sandhausen until June 2014. However, Uzoma was only once in the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga season 2013/14 in the 3-0 win against FSV Frankfurt in the 64th minute substituted in. After the end of the season he moved again to Pécsi Mecsek FC, and played 21 games for them in the 2014/15 season .

Change to Serbia

For the 2015/16 season , Uzoma moved to the highest Serbian league to FK Spartak Subotica .

Return to Germany

In the winter of 2016 he moved back to Germany to the third division Chemnitzer FC . For the 2016/2017 season he switched to the regional league team Berliner AK 07 .

Another move to Hungary

In the summer of 2017 he moved back to Hungary for first division promoted Balmazújvárosi FC . After his team was relegated, he stayed in the league and moved to Honvéd Budapest in the summer of 2018 .
