Daniel Gunkel (born June 7, 1980 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
As a teenager, the son of an Ivorian diplomat and a German mother, who grew up in the Frankfurt district of Bonames , played for SV Bonames and later for the amateurs of Eintracht Frankfurt . Later he was under contract with Dresdner SC , Preußen Münster , SV Wehen , Energie Cottbus and 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Gunkel was known for his dangerous free kicks from a great distance. In 2007 he was injected with a reportable substance by the team doctor in Mainz, which was not registered with a form in accordance with the anti-doping regulations. Because of this mistake, Gunkel was warned and Mainz was fined 8,000 euros.
In the winter break of 2009/10 Gunkel moved to the second division TuS Koblenz . He was relegated with the club that season, left Koblenz after six months and went to Panetolikos in the second Greek league in the summer of 2010 . At the end of January 2011 he moved back to Germany; he was contractually bound to the third division Kickers Offenbach until the end of the 2011/12 season . In the 2013/14 season he played for regional league club BSV Rehden .
In 2014 he became the player- coach of the second team, the U-23. From October to December 2014, after Andreas Petersen's resignation, he took over the first team for six games as a coach. Then he assisted the new trainer Alexander Kiene as team coordinator and trained the second team again. For the 2015/16 season, due to his training as a sports and fitness clerk and the birth of his second child, he was only active as a player for the team before moving to the lower class SC Dortelweil for the second half of the season . For the club, however, he only ran a few times and finally ended his active career.
Gunkel is married and has two children with his wife. He works in real estate sales.
