Schuster is the brother of Robin Schuster and the cousin of Benedikt Röcker . He can be used variably in midfield and sometimes also plays as a central defender or libero.
He started his career at FV Löchgau and played in the district league. During the winter break in 2005, the midfielder moved to VfB Stuttgart and initially played in the second team. He made his Bundesliga debut for the professional team on October 27, 2007 in the 1-0 home win of VfB Stuttgart against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , after Roberto Hilbert was injured and replaced. On December 17, 2007, Schuster signed a licensed player contract dated until 2010 with VfB.
Half a year later he moved to the second division club SC Freiburg . In the course of the 2008/09 season he worked out a regular place and was involved in the team's promotion to the Bundesliga . On April 9, 2011, he converted a corner kick directly to the 1-0 lead in a 3-2 win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim ; this hit was later voted goal of the month . After Heiko Butscher left , Schuster was elected team captain during the winter break of the 2011/12 season .
On March 31, 2012 (28th matchday of the 2011/12 season ) in the away game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , Schuster played his 100th league game for the Baden team and scored the goal to make it 1-0. After relegation from the 1st Bundesliga , he rose directly to the team as the second division champion in 2016 . After the end of the 2017/18 season, he ended his active career in Freiburg at the age of 33, and then became a liaison coach at SC Freiburg.
