Heiko Butscher (born July 28, 1980 in Leutkirch im Allgäu ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach . After several positions in the upper amateur classes in southern Germany, he received his first professional contract with VfL Bochum in 2005 . From 2007 to 2012 he played for SC Freiburg , then for Eintracht Frankfurt and from July 2013 again for VfL Bochum. In 2015 he ended his career as a footballer.

Career

Youth and amateur players

Butscher grew up in Dietmanns, a suburb of Bad Wurzach . Up to the age of 19 he played for youth teams of SV Dietmann and in places in the surrounding area for SV Ellwangen, SV Aichstetten and most recently for FC Wangen 05 .

Butscher switched to the amateurs of the second division club Karlsruher SC and counted as a defender under coach Edmund Becker in 1999/2000 in the Regionalliga Süd (32 games, 3 goals). This was followed by two years in the fourth-class Oberliga Baden-Württemberg (64 games, 18 goals). In the 2000/01 season he came to two missions in the KSC first team, which had meanwhile been relegated to the regional league. In the summer of 2002 Butscher moved to the league rivals SV Sandhausen , but neither under coach Willi Entenmann nor his successor Rainer Scharinger did the team come close to the promotion ranks. SV Sandhausen ended up in 4th place, 22 points behind champions and newly promoted VfB Stuttgart Amateure .

Butscher then switched to the same master and climber for the new season . The team was looked after by Reinhold Fanz . In his first year he was in the Regionalliga Süd for the VfB amateurs 29 times and scored three goals, the following year he made 33 appearances and six goals under coach Rainer Adrion . However, he did not succeed in making the leap into the professional squad. Butscher moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for VfL Bochum in the summer of 2005 .

Professional player

VfL Bochum

When he was relegated to the Bundesliga, VfL Bochum , he quickly integrated into the team overseen by Marcel Koller . He won over the season as a header strong center-back and left -back a regular place. In the 2005/06 season he played 24 games and scored one goal. As the second division champions, the Bochum team managed to return to the German upper house of football. In the 2006/07 season Butscher made his debut in the opening game at Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga. However, he was initially not part of the regular VfL line-up, the first five of his 20 missions he was only substituted in the second half. In the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt, he scored his first - and only in this season - Bundesliga goal on matchday 13. A week later he saw the red card in the encounter at Schalke 04 after a foul and had to pause three games. After a weak preliminary round, the promoted team finished 8th in the table at the end of the season. After two years in Bochum, he decided to return to southern Germany.

Sc freiburg

For the 2007/08 season he accepted a contract offer from the second division club SC Freiburg , where Robin Dutt had just succeeded long-time coach Volker Finke . In his first season at SC he was a regular player with 32 games (4 goals). In the 2008/09 season he was team captain and became second division champions with the team. From the 2009/10 season he played with SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. On the 6th matchday of the 2010/11 round , the now 30-year-old suffered an inner ligament tear in his left knee during the away game in Wolfsburg and had to take a two-month break. In February 2011 Butscher extended his contract term to 2013. However, during the winter break of the 2011/12 season he was eliminated from the squad and received approval for a change.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt signed him during the 2011/12 winter break . Butscher signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2013. In his first six months he was used in twelve games and at the end of the season rose to the Bundesliga with Eintracht; it was his third ascent. But for the new season Butscher was no longer placed behind Carlos Zambrano and Bamba Anderson and took on a kind of "co-trainer position" at Eintracht Frankfurt. He came from the 16th to the 18th game day only three times when Anderson was injured.

VfL Bochum

For the 2013/14 season Butscher returned to the second division and to VfL Bochum; his contract ran until June 2015. He then ended his active career.

Coaching career

For the 2016/17 season he was Jan Siewert's assistant coach and looked after the U19s. On January 1, 2017, he joined the professional squad at VfL Bochum as an assistant coach. After Jens Rasiejewski was released , Butscher took over the first team at VfL Bochum on February 7, 2018. But after only one game he was again assistant coach under the new head coach Robin Dutt . During the 2019/20 season , Butscher will complete his training as a football teacher.
