Dimitrios Grammozis ( Greek Δημήτρης Γραμμόζης , born July 8, 1978 in Wuppertal ) is a former Greek - German football player and current coach .

Career as a player

Grammozis was born in Wuppertal and grew up in Velbert , where he also lives. The versatile defensive and defensive midfielder began his career in 1984 in the Velbert district of Neviges with the local TuS Neviges . After four years he moved to SSVg Velbert within the city in 1988 , for which he completed three years. At his last station in Velbert he played for Borussia Velbert for exactly two years before moving to his hometown in 1992, for the largest club there, Wuppertaler SV .

After a year in the youth teams of Wuppertaler SV, he moved to KFC Uerdingen 05 in 1994 , where he played for two more years in the A-youth. In 1996, when he was just 18 years old, he played in the 2. Bundesliga in the regular formation of the KFC and after another season he was transferred to the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV for 350,000 euros (1998).

Within the two years with a final qualification for the Champions League , he was not able to assert himself as a regular player alongside good players and moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern for the 2000/01 season .

His five years there were marked by injury problems and difficulties with the changing coaches, especially in his last two seasons.

He then moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga 1. FC Cologne at the beginning of the 2005/06 season . His contract there originally ran until the end of the 2006/07 season. After just one year, however, the Grammozis' club split prematurely.

He moved to the second division promoted Rot-Weiss Essen on July 20, 2006 , where he signed a contract until June 30, 2008.

In June 2007 he moved to the Greek first division club Diethnis Enosis Ergotelis . He signed a one-year contract with an option for another year. When he fell out with his coach in November 2008, he moved to the Cypriot first division club Omonia Nicosia in December of the same year . In 2010 he became Cypriot champion with Omonia and won the Supercup against Apollon Limassol .

After two years, he moved to the Greek first division club and promoted AO Kerkyra in January 2011 . For the 2012/13 season Grammozis moved to the second team at VfL Bochum . He completed 26 games (one goal) in the fourth-class Regionalliga West and then ended his career.

Career as a coach

In the offspring of VfL Bochum

After Grammozis had ended his career, he became Thomas Reis's assistant coach for the A-Juniors (U19) of VfL Bochum , who played in the A-Juniors Bundesliga , for the 2013/14 season . In January 2014, Reis and Grammozis took over the second team that played in the fourth-class Regionalliga West .

For the 2014/15 season Grammozis took over his first youth team as head coach with the C1 Juniors (U15) of VfL Bochum (U15 Regionalliga West). In December 2014 he was assistant coach of the interim coach Frank Heinemann for the second division team until the end of the year . In January 2015, Gertjan Verbeek became the head coach of the professional team. Grammozis did not return to the U15, but took over the second team as head coach. He looked after the team until the end of the 2014/15 season and became the head coach of the B1 juniors who played in the B junior Bundesliga for the 2015/16 season .

For the 2016/17 season , Grammozis also became Verbeek's assistant coach for the second division team.

In order to concentrate on his training as a football teacher , Grammozis became Jens Rasiejewski's assistant coach at the U19 for the 2017/18 season . After the dismissal of professional coach Ismail Atalan , Rasiejewski became the head coach of the second division professionals in October 2017, whereupon Grammozis moved up to the U19 head coach. In March 2018 he successfully completed his football teacher training.

SV Darmstadt 98

At the end of February 2019 Grammozis took over the second division team of SV Darmstadt 98 from Dirk Schuster . He signed a contract until June 30, 2020. At this point, after the 23rd matchday of the 2018/19 season, the team was 13th with 26 points. He took 20 out of 33 points in the last 11 games and finished the season in 10th place. The 2019/20 season got off to a moderate start. The team finished the first half of the season with 20 points in 12th place, with the lead on relegation relegation place was 4 points. In the second half of the season Grammozis' team was able to increase their performance enormously and took second place in the second half of the table behind the champion Arminia Bielefeld with 32 points. In the final table this meant the 5th place, with the deficit on the promotion relegation place 3 and on the 2nd place 6 points.

A continued employment of Grammozis failed as early as February 2020, after both parties agreed on different ideas about the duration of a new contract. The club had only offered Grammozis a one-year contract, according to sports coordinator Carsten Wehlmann "regardless of Dimi (...) for economic reasons". Grammozis, however, wanted a longer contract, he saw in the offered "no basis for a target-oriented and constructive cooperation beyond the summer". "Grammozis noted with amazement" that his successor Markus, who was signed up in April 2020, received a two-year contract.
