Borussia Velbert (officially: Sportverein Borussia 06 Velbert eV ) was a sports club from Velbert in the Mettmann district . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.
history
The association was founded in 1906. In 1930, the Borussia rose to the then second-class 1st district class Berg / Mark and stayed in second class until the Gauliga Niederrhein was introduced in 1933. On November 4, 1941, Borussia merged with SSV Velbert to form a war game community. After the end of the Second World War , Borussia initially played in the district class. There, the Velberters were runner-up behind Schwarz-Weiß Wuppertal and SC Sonnborn 07 respectively in 1950 and 1952 .
In 1953 Borussia finally became champions and rose to the state league , which was the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine at the time. After just one year, he was relegated to the district class, which was followed by direct promotion. Although the Velberter were last, but remained due to the introduction of the Association League Niederrhein in the state league. The descent in 1968 was followed by a direct resurgence. The sporting highlight of Borussia was third place in the 1972/73 season, before the Velbert team had to relegate to the district class again three years later.
In 2003 Borussia Velbert merged with TVg Langenhorst to form SC Velbert .
