Frank Heinemann (born January 8, 1965 in Bochum ), nicknamed Funny , is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Player career
For the 1983/84 season , Heinemann moved together with Martin Kree from the A-youth of VfL Bochum to the amateur team in the Oberliga Westfalen .
The midfielder was active as a professional footballer at VfL Bochum throughout his career. From the 1986/87 season to 1995/96 he played 195 Bundesliga games (14 goals) and 21 second division games (one goal). His greatest success with VfL as a player was his participation in the 1988 cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt (0: 1).
Coaching career
In 1996 Heinemann became assistant coach at VfL and has since assisted Klaus Toppmöller , Ernst Middendorp , Bernard Dietz , Ralf Zumdick , Rolf Schafstall , Peter Neururer and, from 2005, Marcel Koller . Under the head coaches Klaus Toppmöller and Peter Neururer, he qualified for the UEFA Cup with VfL Bochum in 1996/1997 and 2003/04 . From September 20, 2009 to October 27, 2009 he worked as an interim trainer in Bochum after Marcel Koller had been on leave. With the engagement of Heiko Herrlich as the new head coach, he had to vacate his position as assistant coach. From March 1, 2010 to March 14, 2011 he was junior coordinator at VfL Bochum.
For the 2011/12 season , Heinemann took over the position of assistant coach at Hamburger SV under head coach Michael Oenning and kept it even after Oenning was dismissed after the 6th matchday and was replaced by interim coach Rodolfo Cardoso . Then he assisted the head coach Thorsten Fink together with Patrick Rahmen . For the 2013/14 season Heinemann returned to the second division VfL Bochum as assistant to head coach Peter Neururer . On December 9th, 2014 he became interim trainer for Neurur, who had previously been released from his duties, until the end of the year. Under his successor Gertjan Verbeek , Heinemann no longer worked as an assistant coach, but was still a scout for the club until his contract expired in summer 2015.
For the 2016/2017 season, Heinemann was hired as assistant coach under Norbert Meier at SV Darmstadt 98 . On December 5, 2016, the cooperation between Heinemann and SV Darmstadt 98 was ended. From January 3, 2017, Heinemann was assistant coach at 1. FC Kaiserslautern , the coaching team was dismissed in September 2017 after a weak start to the season.
At the beginning of March 2019, Heinemann was again assistant coach at KFC Uerdingen under Meier, who had taken over as head coach at the beginning of February. When Meier was dismissed on March 16, 2019 after a total of seven games without a win, Heinemann took over as interim head coach. Heinemann looked after the team in 6 league games, in which he scored 7 points (2 wins, one draw, 3 defeats). On April 30, 2019, Heiko Vogel took over the team, whereupon Heinemann returned to his role as assistant coach.
