The FC Wangen 05 is in Wangen im Allgäu beheimateter football club . The club was founded in 1905 and belonged to the top amateur class from the late 1950s to the late 1970s. After being promoted from the state league again, the first team will play in the Württemberg Association League in the 2016/17 season.
history
The association founded in 1905 was dissolved several times in the early years (1907, 1910 and 1915) and re-established (1908, 1912 and 1920). In 1920, FC was initially re-established as a football department in MTG Wangen, which merged with FV Wangen to form the new FC Wangen in 1929 . There was no notable national success in Wangen football until the Second World War .
After the war, all clubs were dissolved and in the small town of Allgäu, the sports community of Wangen was initially created as an amalgamation of all clubs. Only on July 16, 1951 did FC Wangen become independent again. After moving into the new venue, the soccer team's most successful period began. In 1957 FC 05 rose to the amateur upper house, the 1st Amateur League Württemberg , for the first time . He had to leave the league at the end of the season in 16th place, but returned to the 1959/60 season and then remained for almost 20 years (until 1978) an integral part of the Black Forest-Bodensee league relay, the third-highest division in German football at the time. In 1968 FC Wangen was on the way to the second-rate Regionalliga Süd; the red-whites completed the 1967/68 season as champions, but failed significantly in the subsequent promotion round. Two years later they only just missed the championship, in a play-off game they had to admit defeat to SV 03 Tübingen .
Until the introduction of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 1978, it was possible to stay in the top amateur league for around 20 years. Due to the league reform in 1978, FC Wangen became fourth class, and since then the leap into the amateur upper house has not been successful. For one season, 1995/96 , the Allgäu belonged to the then fourth-class Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. Otherwise, FC Wangen played in the Württemberg association and state leagues for the past three decades. Between 1985 and 1990 FC Wangen reached the first main round of the DFB Cup three times . On August 24, 1985, a 2-1 home win against SV Darmstadt 98 succeeded before Wangen failed in the second round at SV Sandhausen . In 1989/90 and 1990/91, however, Wangen retired in the first round. With (again) Darmstadt 98 and Rot-Weiss Essen , however, nationally well-known clubs again gave their calling cards in the Allgäu.
In 2003, a C junior women's team was formed at FC Wangen, and since the 2006/07 season there has also been a women's team. Since relegation from the Württemberg Association League in 2015, the state league has been the new sporting home of the first men's team. After only one season, he was promoted to the association league.
Stadion
The club plays its home games in the Allgäu Stadium . The venue, built in 1955, holds around 5,000 spectators. With installation work, there was space for around 9,000 spectators at the anniversary game against FC Bayern Munich in 2005 , and around 8,000 spectators in 2006 against the Togolese national team , which was preparing for the World Cup here. Since 2005, Wangen has also had a modern artificial turf pitch that complies with FIFA standards.
