Robertsport is the capital of Grand Cape Mount County in the West African Republic of Liberia . The name refers to the first Liberian President Joseph Jenkins Roberts .

Robertsport is located on the Atlantic Ocean , on a sheltered bay in Cape Mount Bay with direct access to Lake Piso , Liberia's largest lake. The place is geographically in the northwest of Liberia, on Cape Mount , which the Portuguese navigator Pedro de Sintra reached in 1461 as the first European on his research trip along the Guinea coast . The urban area covers about five square kilometers and occupies the western part of the peninsula. Most of the area is covered by the rainforest , with Mount Wakalor as the highest point .

The place Robertsport consists mainly of the fishing village Gomboja , the indigenous population belongs to the Vai people . Some of the Americo-Liberian houses and the church, now dilapidated, date from the founding time of the city. The town of Robertsport is connected to the hinterland by a dirt road. The place was of military importance for the United States Air Force during World War II . Pioneer units built a field airfield , supply depots and military facilities on the northern outskirts of the city in 1942 . Also, the Lake Piso was for seaplanes are used. Today there is only a 900 meter long unpaved runway of this infrastructure .

The main industry in the city is fishing. The harbor bay is too shallow for a modern seaport , so the place was not considered as a trading port for the nearby iron ore mines.

Robertsport has a delightful landscape and was therefore a popular excursion destination before the civil war. In the reign of President William S. Tubman Robertsport was promoted, it received with the Tubman Center of African Culture an important cultural center and art museum also beyond the national border of Liberia. Lake Piso and the freshwater lakes surrounding it were designated as a nature reserve in 2006. One of Robertsport's oldest buildings and attractions is the Mount Zion Baptist Church .
