The Bob Island ( French Île Bob ) is a 1.5 km long and up to 145  m high rock island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 6 km southeast of Cape Errera on Wiencke Island .

Participants in the Belgica expedition (1897-1899) of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery mapped and photographed the island in 1898 and originally gave it the name Île Famine (French for hunger island ). The background to this name was the fact that a crew with only a few provisions had to stay on this island for a while before they could be taken back on board. However, this name is no longer included in the expedition reports. The name given to the name that is valid today is the short name of Robert Frédéric de Gerlache de Gomery, a nephew of the expedition leader. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey landed here in 1955 and took new measurements. These showed that the island is significantly smaller than originally assumed.
