Robert Orton senior (born July 21, 1929 in Kansas City (Kansas) , † July 16, 2006 in Las Vegas ) was an American wrestler . He was also known by the name of Bob Orton, Sr. or simply Bob Orton . Orton married Rita on January 22, 1950. Robert Orton was the father of WWE Hall of Famers “Cowboy” Bob Orton, Jr. and wrestler Barry O, and the grandfather of today's WWE “Third-Generation Superstar” Randy Orton . He also had a daughter named Rhonda .

He had a close friendship for many years with WWE Hall of Famer André the Giant .

In July 2000, he retired from the wrestling business and spent the final years of his life in Las Vegas , Nevada . Here, in July 2006, Bob Orton Sr. suffered a heart attack at home and then another in hospital. He survived an eight-hour emergency operation, but then died ten hours later of complications from the heart attack.

Career

Under the name "The Big O" he first appeared in the Stampede Wrestling television series.

Orton was a two-time NWA Florida World Tag Team Champion with his partner Eddie Graham in 1966 . He was also able to win several other titles in various NWA territories, including the title of NWA Southern Heavyweight Champion and, together with Bob Orton Jr., the Tag Team title of the Florida Championship Wrestling promotion and the title of NWA United States Heavyweight Champion of the Central States Wrestling graduation. He was also active and successful in the former professional wrestler association American Wrestling Association (AWA) .
