Bobby Hendricks

Bobby Hendricks (born February 22, 1938 (according to another source 1939) in Columbus (Ohio) ) is an Afro-American soul singer .

After previously singing with The Flyers , he became a member of The Swallows in 1956 .

In 1957 he appeared in an opening act (The Five Crowns?) For The Drifters , while his lead vocals in the style of Clyde McPhatter were so impressive that he was immediately offered to succeed Johnny Moore in their band. They took part in The biggest show of stars for 1957 that same year and toured with stars like Paul Anka , The Diamonds , Buddy Holly , Chuck Berry , Fats Domino , The Big Bopper and The Everly Brothers .

With this Drifters formation, Bobby Hendricks recorded Drip Drop , Moonlight Bay and Suddenly There's A Valley .

In the fall of 1958 he left her and signed a solo contract with Sue Records , which u. a. the duo Ike Turner and Tina Turner and Don Covay had under contract. Until 1960 he had three hits there with Itchy Twitchy Feeling , A thousand dreams and Psycho .

He was then a member of Bill Pinkney and the Original Drifters until 1977 .

He resumed his solo career in 1977 and has since performed numerous appearances, mostly for charities.

In honor of the new millennium, there was a reunion with Bill Pinkney and the Original Drifters in 2000 on the nationally broadcast television show Doo Wop 51 .

On April 13, 2001, he became a member of the Doo Wop Hall Of Fame of America .
