Career

Before joining Orlando City SC, Murphy served as the director of the football academy at St. Stephen's Episcopal School , a private co-educational college preparatory school , and boarding and day school in Austin , Texas . Before that he was Director of Coaching at the South Texas Youth Soccer Association .

In Texas he also appeared briefly as an assistant coach for a young team with play in the Premier Development League (PDL) before Phil Rawlins , main shareholder in Austin Aztex , a US second division team, approached him and asked him for support . At the Aztex, Murphy was head coach Adrian Heath's right-hand man , but mostly worked from the background. After Rawlins relocated the franchise to Orlando , Florida in 2010-11 and continued it as Orlando City , Murphy continued with his second job at St. Stephen's Episcopal School . The reason he gave was that his children were still going to school at this point and he wanted to stay until they had finished. Harrison Heath , son of Adrian Heath, later even said of Murphy that he was like a second father to him.

On January 15, 2016, the MLS Franchise announced the engagement of Bobby Murphy as the new Assistant Trainer and Technical Coordinator of the MLS Academy of the Franchise. Then he also appeared in the subsequent championship game, a 2-2 defeat against the New York Red Bulls and in the league game after that , a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps . After the signing of Jason Kreis , which was announced on July 19, 2016, Murphy supervised the team in the subsequent championship round with the support of Anthony Pulis , who also acted briefly as interim coach and was actually the coach of Orlando City B 2-2 away draw against the Columbus Crew before Jason Kreis started work the following day. Since then, Murphy has reappeared as the academy's assistant coach and technical coordinator. After Kreis was fired from Orlando City on June 15, 2018, Murphy again took over the interim coaching position. He then appeared in three games as the coach of the franchise, before James O'Connor took over the vacant coaching post two weeks later and Murphy was then also fired from the franchise.

Murphy holds the USSF -A- and USSF-National-Youth-Trainer licenses. He also holds a Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in English from New Hampshire College and a Master's degree (M.Ed.) from Plymouth State College .
