Robert "Bobby" Murphy (born April 1, 1989 in Berkeley , California ) is an American entrepreneur and co-founder of Snap , the maker of the social media service Snapchat .

Private life

Bobby Murphy is the son of two government employees; his mother emigrated from the Philippines . He grew up in Berkeley , California and studied mathematics and scientific computing at Stanford University , where he also met the later co-founder of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel . Both are members of the Fraternity Kappa Sigma . Together they developed Future Freshman in 2010 , software for managing university applications. The project did not bring economic success; Murphy and Spiegel said they had five customers. In 2011 the two founded Snapchat.

Bobby Murphy now lives in Venice near Los Angeles .
