Evan Thomas mirror (* 4. June 1990 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American Internet - entrepreneurs . He is the founder and CEO of Snap , maker of the Snapchat app , a proprietary instant messaging application for smartphones and tablets.

Youth and education

Evan Spiegel was born in Los Angeles in 1990 as the son of lawyers John W. Spiegel and Melissa Ann Thomas . He grew up in the Pacific Palisades , a borough of Los Angeles, and was educated on the principles of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America . Spiegel attended the Crossroads School in Santa Monica and then Stanford University .

While still in high school , he attended design courses at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and in the summer before Stanford at the Otis College of Art and Design ; he also did an unpaid internship at Red Bull .

During his studies he worked as a paid intern in a biomedical company, as a vocational trainer in Cape Town and at Intuit on the TxtWeb project .

Career

First he founded the online portal FutureFreshman.com together with Murphy, like Spiegel a member of the student association Kappa Sigma . This should make it easy for students to apply to US universities.

He originally started the Snapchat application as a course project while studying product design at Stanford. He co-created the mobile app with Reggie Brown and Bobby Murphy . Brown later sued Spiegel and Murphy on the grounds that the idea came largely from him. In 2012, Spiegel left university without a degree to focus on Snapchat. In the course of a settlement, they had to admit to Brown that they had the original idea for Snapchat.

Private

In May 2014, the Valleywag blog published private emails from Spiegel to members of the Kappa Sigma fraternity who were mostly misogynistic and homophobic . He later apologized for his statements and attitude toward women, stating:

“I'm obviously mortified and embarrassed that my idiotic emails during my fraternity days were made public. I have no excuse. I'm sorry I wrote them at the time and I was jerk (sic) to have written them. They in no way reflect who I am today or my views towards women. "

He has been married to Australian model Miranda Kerr since the end of May 2017 .
