The Molenfeuer Travemünde is a small lighthouse on the Nordermole in Lübeck-Travemünde . The so-called Nordermolenbake marks the entrance to the Trave and warns shipping of the shallows in front of the Brodtener Ufer .

Old beacon

The old beacon

In 1967, parallel to the extension of the Nordermole, a reinforced concrete tower was built on the pier head. The building was characterized by two light strips made of glass blocks that were illuminated from the inside. The beacon consisted of a 220 V / 100 watt incandescent lamp , a Fresnel lens , a green and a red colored disc. If the main lamp failed, a lamp changer ensured that a reserve lamp was turned into the focal point of the optics. A visibility measuring device recorded the atmospheric visibility and transmitted the value to the traffic control center. When visibility was less than 600 meters, two fog lights were switched on during the day and one fog fire at night. A wind measuring mast was installed above the beacon .

Over the years, moisture has penetrated into the structure through cracks and flaking on the reinforced concrete parts. Corrosion on the reinforcement steel and cracks in the facade area increasingly endangered the stability . The massive damage was irreparable and after it was decided to replace it with a new building, the tower was demolished in December 2012 . For the duration of the construction work, a temporary beacon was erected on the pier head.

The new steel tower was manufactured by a company in Emsland . The factory-fitted with corrosion protection provided segments tower shaft and lantern basement were then used as heavy transport for Water and Shipping Authority Luebeck brought. There, the components were on a deck barge loaded, towed to Nordermole and from a mobile crane placed on the new reinforced concrete base. In May 2013 the new Nordermolenbake went into operation.

The 4 m high wind measuring mast is installed on the conical tower, which is 12 m high with a lantern storey. The new lighting technology consists of a 6-way lamp changer with a 12 V / 35 watt halogen bulb . The control of the beacon, the indirect lighting of the tower with eight light-emitting diodes , the evaluation of the visibility and the switching on of the fog lights are all regulated automatically. As starboard Lateralzeichen is Nordermolenbake now painted green and white.

The pier fire is maintained by the Lübeck Waterways and Shipping Office and monitored by the Travemünde traffic control center.
