Post mill Liebenburg 2012 before the fire

The post mill in the Lehmkuhle in Liebenburg was a post mill from the 19th century that was destroyed by fire in May 2012. At last it had two sails and two louvre sashes.

history

The mill was probably built in Immenrode between 1840 and 1860 . It stood there on Mühlenweg, which leads from Weddingen to Immenrode, and was then called "Schraders Windmühle". In 1889 the miller Gustav Tappe had it dismantled and moved to Liebenburg.

Before this move, she had only had two grinding cycles, a roller mill with elevator and centrifugal sifter from the Wetzig company in Wittenberg was added. In the first decades of the 20th century the mill was modernized again. There were two stone entrances, two roller mills, two sifting machines, a squeezing chair , a peeling and brushing machine, a flour mixer and five elevators. Later a diesel engine was added as an auxiliary drive, which was housed in the housing of the trestle. A running track was laid around the trestle on which rollers ran, by means of which the codend wall - the control bar of post windmills is called the codend or sterz - of the mill was supported. This was to prevent the heavy mill box from sinking into the ground, which could have led to a tilt.

The post mill was operated commercially until the 1970s, after which the owner Heinrich Minning used it for grinding for his own needs. His heirs restored the windmill from 1991 onwards. They installed a pair of sail blades from the windmill in Wichtringhausen . In 1993 the pair of opposing wings was renewed with blinds. In 2010, a Venetian blind was destroyed by hurricane Xynthia and subsequently repaired by the owners.

In the morning hours of May 19, 2012, the mill was completely destroyed by a fire. In the course of the investigation of the cause of the fire , arson is assumed. The owners stated a value of 1.5 million euros for the post mill. Since the mill was not insured, reconstruction seems unlikely.

Sightseeing opportunities and events

The mill could be visited by arrangement. She has participated in the German Milling Day since the 1990s . On this occasion, the parish of Liebenburg celebrated an ecumenical service at the windmill every year, depending on the weather. The mill was on the Lower Saxony Mill Road .
