Bodø Radio (LGP) is a Norwegian coastal radio station based in Bodø .
The company began in 1938 as the operator of a telephone station and was housed together with the national telephone company (Norwegian: "Rikstelefon") in the city until May 1964 in a building in which, in addition to sea telephony and telegraphy, it was also responsible for air traffic communication with airplanes. 1991 AERadio the aviation office of Norway assumed.
Initially, Bodø Radio broadcast only for its own municipality, but was gradually expanded to include communications in Nordland , Troms and large parts of the Norwegian Economic Zone (Norges økonomiske sone) via remote-controlled ultra-short and medium waves . When Harstad Radio closed in the late 1980s , many listeners switched to Bodø Radio.
The Jan Mayen radio has been operated by remote control since 1994 and the Bjørnøya radio since autumn 1996 via satellite stations, thus covering the areas around these islands for radio communication and weather reports via ultra-short and medium wave.
From the beginning of April 2006 Bodø took over the remote control of all maritime radio systems on Svalbard , including Isfjord Radio .
Bodø Radio is now located in Jakhelln Brygge together with the rescue centers for Northern Norway .
