Jan Mayen Radio was the original name of a Norwegian coastal radio and weather station on the island of Jan Mayen .

This first station was installed in 1921 on Jamesonbukta east of the Eggøya peninsula . It consisted of a Telefunken - transmitter with three kilowatts of output power. In September 1940 this station, later called Eldste Metten (Norwegian slang for "Eldste Meteorologisk stasjon", oldest meteorological station) was destroyed by the Norwegian armed forces . In April 1941, a new station was built in Jøssingdalen, southeast of the northern lagoon , where it was better protected against bombardment by German ships or aircraft. After the war, she moved into the abandoned buildings of the American building that was built in 1943 Atlantic City bearing station on the north bank of the North Lagoon. Since this place was unsuitable for a meteorological station, it moved to the high plateau above the northern lagoon in 1949 . The now listed building is now called Gamle Metten (Old Station).

In 1962 the station ( Metten ) was built on the Helenesanden three kilometers north of the LORAN-C radio navigation system of the Norwegian Armed Forces. In 1984 the telegraphic installation was removed and the remaining station was combined with the military system. In 1989 an ultra-short wave transmitter was installed at Danielssen crater and in 1994 a medium wave transmitter , which is controlled by Bodø Radio in Bodø .
