The Bodan ferries were named after the Bodan shipyard in Kressbronn on Lake Constance , pioneer ferries of the Bundeswehr . It was in operation from 1962 to 2001. The ferries, which are mainly used on the Rhine , could be dismantled into pontoons and transported by twelve heavy-duty transporters and four trucks with trailers (7 tonnes gross vehicle weight) or several flat rail cars coupled together to form a block train , so that one Use on the Oder or Vistula would have been within the tactical range. The ferries were also used as floating bridges during exercises . In 1967, for example, the Ehrental arm of the Rhine was bridged with linked ferries. A Bodan ferry is an exhibit in the Defense Technology Study Collection in Koblenz and can be viewed there.
