Life

Andreas Georg Samuel Berg studied German, philosophy and art history at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Since 1987 he has been working as a television journalist for SWF - today SWR - in Mainz . In addition to his work as a cultural editor, the topics of Jewish religion and Jewish history are among his main areas of work. As a feature author and director, he has produced documentaries for SWR, but also for ARD, including the creation of the new Mainz synagogue and mountain film pioneer Arnold Fanckand about the early Wild West cinema productions in the Palatinate. Andreas Berg has also emerged as a poet since his student days, and four volumes of poetry have been published since 1980. In 1979 he founded the group Lyrik & Musik, with which he developed a musical recitation program for his texts and in which he also participated as a pianist. Until the ensemble was dissolved in 1984, the group's programs were presented in concerts, including on television. A record was released in 1981. He also published poems in various anthologies and literary yearbooks. In 2015, after a long literary break, his first novel was published.

Andreas Berg is a member of the Jewish-Arab peace initiative Givat Haviva and was a participant in German-Israeli-Palestinian authors' meetings organized by the State Center for Civic Education in Rhineland-Palatinate. Today he lives in the Rheingau and has a second home in the Northwest Palatinate.

Literary work

His poems reflect life with its existential questions, the own writing process, but also deal with its roots in Judaism. Typical of his style are irony and laconicism and playing with literary quotations. In the epilogue to his last volume of poetry, Herr Dudens Klangkurtisanen or Die Dichter go up and down and silent , written by the professor of German studies Hermann Kurzke , he is described as a connoisseur of German literature, whose work is permeated by allusions and characterized by a cryptic and radically shortened language . During a reading at a German-Israeli-Palestinian writers' meeting in Israel, the poet Hilde Domin praised Andreas Berg's texts as deeply felt and made intelligent. After a long pause literary publication appeared from Andreas Berg in July 2015 the issued at Luxbooks anthology area designs his narrative Jerusalem Blues or, as if by a tune piano in an apartment in Haifa was a poem , which he dedicated to Hilde Domin.
