Down to earth 2000 was a German electro pop / chiptune / bit pop group founded in 1995 by Dragan Espenschied and Bernhard Kirsch. The musicians describe themselves as “pioneers of home computer music ”.

Band history

In 1999 they released their debut album Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3 on Rephlex Records in London. You can hear a mixture of chiptunes , rave and eurodance with German lyrics. The album was created entirely in home work on non-professional equipment and home computers with partially self-developed software.

In the further course some smaller publications like remixes or compilations appeared . In June 2003 the EP Hart rocking scientists was released on Feed The Machine records , Detroit. It contained heavier chiptune dance pieces on one side and harmony chants with a folk touch on the B side.

In between concerts often took place - in addition to Germany, especially in Belgium, France, Great Britain (especially London) and the United States. At the invitation of the Goethe Institute , the musicians were able to play the opening concert of the Version> 3 Festival in Chicago in 2003.

In 2004 her piece In Rock 8-Bit was used for the computer animation The Annoying Thing , which was later marketed worldwide under the name Crazy Frog .

In July 2006 Bodenständig 2000 briefly achieved worldwide fame because of their withdrawal from the iTunes music portal , which the artists justified with fundamental concerns about the restrictive DRM . This action made waves in the blogosphere and was even recognized in an article in the International Herald Tribune . The musicians defended themselves against the accusation of an intended PR gag by making the music pieces in question available for download free of charge.

The group has been inactive since 2010.
