history

The trading company Bohdan, founded in 1992, became a manufacturing company in 1998 when it took over a bus repair company in Cherkassy and began manufacturing minibuses in 1999. At the beginning of 2020 Bohdan presented its first e-bus.

In 2000, the bankrupt car manufacturer Luzkyj avtomobilnyj zavod (LuAZ) in Lutsk was taken over. In 2004 Bohdan presented the three-axle 15 m low-floor bus A321 . In 2005, two A321 bodies were fitted with electrical equipment from Cegelec ( Czech Republic ). They were given the type designation E231 and were delivered to Kiev in October 2005. The final assembly took place there with the help of the local Kyjiwski Sawod Elektrotransportu (KZET). The Bohdan E231 is the first three-axle articulated trolleybus type from Ukrainian production.

The first test drives of the two prototypes took place in autumn 2006. Due to some defects, there was a need for improvement, which is why both E231s were returned to the manufacturing plant in Lutsk. One of the two E231 returned to Kiev as the 4301 and started regular service in April 2007. The other went to the trolleybus operation in Lutsk. This subsequently received four more E231s, in total they were classified under the numbers 203 to 205 and 208 to 209. In 2008 two more E231s were delivered to Kiev, which were given the numbers 4302 and 4303. The structure continued to correspond largely to the A231 bus type.

As early as 2008, Bohdan began building redesigned bodies for buses and trolleybuses, initially only with two axles. The T801 in three-axis 15 m design has been part of this model series since 2011, making it the successor to the E231.
