Aquaristics
Like a number of the water spikes , this plant is also offered in specialist shops for planting aquariums . However, this type of water ear is already one of the more demanding aquarium plants and the largest type that is kept in the aquarium. Among other things, it needs a rest period in which the tuber can regenerate. It also grows better when the water has a strong current. The plant's light requirement is medium to high. It needs water temperatures between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius. Boivin's water ear also has a high need for carbon dioxide and is therefore dependent on a carbon dioxide fertilization of up to 20 milligrams per liter. It is suitable for planting the background and central zone in the aquarium and can also be used as a specimen plant . Due to its size, the aquarium in which it is cared for should be very spacious and large.
Since breeding of the plant has only succeeded to a limited extent so far, it is still dependent on the fact that tubers are imported from Madagascar's natural stocks. The future attitude in the aquarium must therefore be questioned.
