Angelo Bolaffi (born May 31, 1946 in Rome ) is an Italian philosopher, political scientist and Germanist . Bolaffi is Professor of Political Philosophy at La Sapienza University .

Life

Even during his studies, Bolaffi was close to the left-wing intellectual spectrum. After receiving his doctorate in Rome in 1969, Bolaffi moved to the Free University of Berlin with the help of a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 1973 . He translated texts by German and Austrian political scientists and philosophers, including Adorno , Marcuse , Tönnies , Fraenkel and Cassirer . In the circle of political activists, he also had contact with Rudi Dutschke at this time . From 1983 to 1984 he took over the chairmanship of Wolf-Dieter Narr at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University for two semesters .

From 2007 to 2011 he was director of the Italian Cultural Institute (Istituto Italiano di Cultura) in Berlin . Bolaffi is a member of numerous organizations, including the German-Italian Center “ Villa Vigoni ” in Menaggio , the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin, and the International Ernst Cassirer Society in Heidelberg. As one of Italy's most prominent Germany experts, he has dealt with German-Italian relations in numerous books and articles .
