The Bolinder Bluff is a prominent cliff on the north coast of King George Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It towers over 5km south-east of False Round Point the Venus Bay . Its summit ridge is crowned by three rock pillars made of dark gray and light brown rock.
The cliff has been known to sealers, who anchored in nearby Esther Harbor , since the 1820s . It was mapped and named in 1937 by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations . It is named after the fact that the damage to a boat engine made by the Swedish manufacturer Bolinder-Munktell forced six expedition members to wait for help on a beach near the cliff for nine days.
