Bonanza is a municipality in the Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Norte region of the Central American state of Nicaragua .

The place has around 15,000 inhabitants and the majority of the population are mestizo . The cultivation of bananas is very important for the economy of the municipality. A second mainstay is mining, which has attracted numerous people from all over the world to dig for gold. In 1996 the first elections for the municipal council took place.

geography

Waspán is north of Bonanza and Rosita is to the east . To the south of the district is Siuna , and to the west are the municipalities of El Cuá and San José de Bocay . Bonanza extends between 84 ° 31 '40 "and 84 ° 36' 29" west longitude and 13 ° 54 '00 "and 14 ° 14' 35" north latitude. The place is 410 km away from the capital Managua .
