Buenaventura Carlos Aribau y Farriols (* 1798 in Barcelona ; † 1862 ibid) was a Catalan writer, poet and economist.
Aribau is considered to be the founder of the Renaixença cultural movement , which was of paramount importance for the Catalan language and culture, but also for the national consciousness of Catalonia. With his work Oda a la Pàtria from 1833, he founded the upswing of the Catalan language after the years of the Decadència, in which the Catalan language became virtually meaningless because it had been supplanted by Spanish .
