Boots & Braces is an Oi! -Tape. They are one of the oldest German bands in this genre.

Band history

Boots & Braces was founded in 1983 by the Walz brothers. After a few rehearsals they found the bassist Alfred, who quit in 1984 because the brothers moved to Hohenlohe . Alfred only made a few appearances with the band, u. a. with the befriended band Herbärds , and recorded the first demo .

The band found a replacement in Alex. Appearances in Germany and France followed. In 1986 the line-up was expanded to include singer Ralf, with whom the first single Aufrecht geht (1987) was self-distributed. The debut album Wahnsinn was released in 1988 on the right-wing extremist label Rock-O-Rama . After the release, Alex got out again. In 16-year-old Martin they found a new guitarist, which leads to Matt Walz switching to bass.

The first appearance of the right-wing rock band Noiewerte took place together with Boots & Braces in Schwäbisch Gmünd .

In 1990 the band switched to the Metal Enterprises label and released the second album Partypiraten . The band then played in front of about 1000 people in Budapest . After the tour, the line-up was expanded to include the second guitarist Dani. In 1992 the third album The Other Side was released on Nowotnys Noize, a sub-label of Metal Enterprises.

The anniversary CD followed in 1993, Schön was the time with six new tracks, which was also available as a picture disc . When the singer unexpectedly quit in 1994, Live in Vienna was published under pressure from the label. Matt Walz took over the vocals again, but emigrated to Ireland with his wife and child in 1995. This made it difficult to perform live, but a tour took place in late 1995 / early 1996. Another foreign tour through the USA and Canada was completed without the singer. Billy, who represented Walz on this tour, remained a substitute for two years.

In 1997 the CD 11 Pints of Oi! released. This was the last release on Metal Enterprises, the label went bankrupt shortly thereafter.

Further tours through Germany, neighboring countries and the USA followed. In 2003 the band recorded the EP Made in Kü'au in Ireland and Germany. The new record company was DSS Records . It was the band's last release to date.

controversy

Although the band has no political statements in their lyrics, they were assigned to right-wing rock due to their former label membership of Rock-O-Rama and Metal Enterprises and appearances with well-known right-wing rock greats such as Noiewerte, Störkraft and Endstufe . From the mid-1990s they tried harder to get rid of their "right-wing reputation as a band". The band stated in interviews that they were not interested in politics, but they did not want to exclude anyone from the outset. Political phrases of any kind would not be tolerated at concerts.
