Boathouse of the Simmerding shipyard

The shipyard Simmerding GmbH & Co. KG is a shipbuilding company based in Upper Bavaria Berg / Leoni Lake Starnberg . The family business restores wooden yachts and manufactures motor and rowing boats in small series.

history

In 1920 Fritz Simmerding founded the Simmerding boat yard on the Starnberg lake promenade. With 75 employees they built in the early years there wooden yachts and motor boats and operated in the twenties with their motor vessels Starnberg I + II on Lake Starnberg a private liner shipping. In 1928 a major fire completely destroyed the shipyard and operations were subsequently relocated to the previous winter storage facility in Leoni on the east bank of Lake Starnberg.

In the course of the Second World War , work in the shipyard almost came to a standstill and had to be rebuilt from 1945 onwards. In the following years Simmending produced dinghy cruisers and small motor boats with electric motors. In the 1960s, the company switched to building migratory birds that were exported to neighboring countries. Around 1975 hulls were made from glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) and these were combined with wooden decks made from precious woods .

Companies

The Simmerding shipyard is a third generation family-run shipyard for wooden and GRP boats. At its location in Leoni, the company restores and repairs wooden yachts and manufactures and sells rowing boats and electric boats as individual items or in small series, such as the San Remo Classico model .

Events and concerts such as those with the jazz trumpeter Claudio Roditi take place regularly at the Simmerding shipyard .
