Boris Grundl (born August 11, 1965 ) is a German non-fiction author , management trainer and wheelchair athlete.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1984 and serving as a reserve officer in the paratrooper battalion in Calw , Boris Grundl began studying sports science at the German Sport University in Cologne in 1986 . At the same time he was a tennis player.

In December 1990, Boris Grundl was seriously injured: During a cliff jump in Puerto Vallarta / Mexico , he broke his cervical vertebra and contracted quadriplegia , a special form of paraplegia that affects all four limbs. In August 1992 Boris Grundl, now dependent on a wheelchair, resumed his studies in sports science . At the same time he studied psychology at the University of Cologne .

From 1996 to 2000 Boris Grundl achieved success as a wheelchair athlete. In 1996 he was German runner-up in wheelchair rugby and in 1997 German champion in his class in wheelchair tennis . In 1997 he was voted the best European wheelchair rugby player, became vice European champion in 1999 and took part in the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney.

After working in management and sales between 1992 and 2001, Boris Grundl founded an institute for managers in October 2001. In addition to his work as a management consultant and leadership trainer, Grundl gives lectures on the topics of personality development, personal responsibility and leadership.

Boris Grundl dealt with his accident and the subsequent handicap in his 2008 book Stand up! Confessions of an Optimist . In a voluntary series of student lectures, he motivates young people to overcome difficulties, to recognize and access their potential and to start optimistically into the future.
