Boris Midney

Boris Midney (born October 22, 1937 in Moscow ) is a Russian-born American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist (alto), arranger and composer . He later became a major producer of disco music.

Midney's parents were classical musicians, the father a symphony orchestra conductor, pianist and choir director, and the mother an opera singer. Midney studied in Moscow at the Gnessin Music Institute and the Conservatory clarinet and composition, learned self-taught saxophone and led the way a jazz quartet. He then performed in hotels and clubs in Russia, composed film music and went on a tour of Japan to the USA. There he lived in New York City and founded the Russian Jazz Quartet . In 1965 it released the album Happiness on ABC / Impulse . After that, Midney worked a lot as an arranger for television ( Merv Griffin , Johnny Carson Show) and for NBC . He also designed recording studios and experimented with recording techniques that made him one of the founders of the Euro-Disco sound. He has his own recording studio in New York.
