Boris Nikolajewitsch Kowaljow ( Russian Борис Николаевич Ковалёв ; born September 2, 1965 in the village of Medved, Solzy Rajon, Novgorod Oblast ) is a Russian historian and researcher at the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Kowaljow is concerned with collaboration during the Second World War.

Life

Kovalyov studied from 1982 to 1987 at the Faculty of History at the Novgorod State Pedagogical Institute. From 1987 to 1990 he worked as an assistant at the Chair of History and Political Economy at the Novgorod Polytechnic Institute. From 1990 to 1993 he was a doctoral student at the State Pedagogical Heart University of Russia. In 1993 Boris Kowaljow received his doctorate with the dissertation “Antifascist Struggle. Analysis of the propaganda confrontation. Using Materials from Northwest Russia 1941-1944 ”. From 1993 to 2014 he worked as a teacher, lecturer, professor at the Yaroslav the Wise State University in Novgorod. From 1998 to 2001 he studied as a doctoral student at the State University of Saint Petersburg . In 2002 he completed his habilitation with the thesis “Nazi Occupation Regime and Collaboration in Russia. 1941-1944 ". Boris Kowaljow has been working as a research assistant at the St. Petersburg Institute for History of the Russian Academy of Sciences since February 2014 .

Boris Kowaljow has been involved with collaboration since the 1990s. He is the author of 300 scientific and popular scientific works, the books in Russian "Nazi occupation regime and collaboration in Russia (1941-1944)", "Collaboration in Russia in the years 1941-1945: types and forms", "Russian constitutionalism during of the Duma Monarchy ”(in cooperation) and the monograph“ Everyday life of the Russian population during the Nazi occupation ”and in 2012 was shortlisted for the Russian prize in the field of popular scientific literature“ Proswetitel ”.

As an expert he appeared on the radio stations “Radio Free Europe”, “Komsomolskaya pravda”, “Echo Moskwy”. Boris Kovalyov also gave voluntary public lectures on the history of Russia, in which he compared the methods of fascist German propaganda and the guidelines characteristic of the agitation of the late 1980s - early 1990s.
