Boris Nikolayevich Nikonorov
Boris Nikolajewitsch Nikonorow ( Russian Борис Николаевич Никоноров ; born January 25, 1939 in Moscow ; † August 30, 2015 ) was a Soviet boxer . In 1963 he was runner-up in the European lightweight category for amateurs .
Career
Boris Nikonorov started boxing as a teenager in his hometown of Moscow. As an adult, he started for the sports organization Workers Reserves Moscow . He was trained mainly by A. Karpuschin, A. Tschebotarjew, M. Bndarsky and W. Ogurenkow. At a height of 1.60 meters, he first fought in the featherweight and from 1962 in the lightweight. His successful career as a boxer lasted from 1959 to 1966. During this time he played 265 fights, of which he won 250. After 1966 he trained as a trainer and then worked as a trainer for the Russian Boxing Association and various boxing clubs until well into the 1990s.
His first successful start at the Soviet championships, he graduated in 1958. He fought his way to the finals that year in the featherweight division, in which he was defeated by Vladimir Safronov and therefore finished second. In 1959, with a victory in the final over Dscharbek Kwantaliani, he was the first Soviet champion and at the same time Spartakiad winner, a title that was very important in the former Soviet Union. Boris Nikanorov was also the Soviet featherweight champion in 1960. He defeated u. a. in the semifinals Stanislav Ivanovich Stepashkin and in the finals Alexander Sassuchin . This title win was very important, because with it he had won the ticket to the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960. At the Olympic boxing tournament in Rome, he won featherweight over Nick Spanakos from the United States and Carlos Aro from Argentina with 5-0 judges' votes. In the quarter-finals he met Francesco Musso from Italy, who just won this fight 3-2 judges' votes on points. Boris Nikonorow therefore had to retire and came in 5th place.
In 1961 he switched to the lightweight. At the Soviet championship that year he lost in the quarterfinals against Velikton Barannikow . A year later, in 1962, he succeeded in the Soviet championship in the final against Wilikton Barannikow, the revenge for the defeat of 1961, after he had already defeated the strong Gennady Kakoschkin in the semifinals . Also in 1963 Boris Nikanorow was Soviet champion (and at the same time Spartakiad winner) in the lightweight. In the final he defeated it B. Kubasow. In May 1963 he was then used in Moscow at the European championship of amateur boxers in lightweight. He defeated Vladimir Kucera from Czechoslovakia through Tech in Moscow. KO in the 1st round and Malcolm McKenzie, Scotland, by technical KO in the 2nd row. In the semifinals he defeated Giuseppi Sabri from Italy on points. In the final he met János Kajdi from Hungary against whom he lost on points. He became vice European champion.
In the Soviet championship in 1964 Boris Nikonorov lost in the semifinals against Gennady Kakoschkin and took 3rd place in this championship. He had no chance of being nominated for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. He had also broken his toe while playing soccer a month earlier. In 1965 and 1966 he was once again the Soviet lightweight champion. In 1965 he defeated Velikton Barannikow and in 1966 W. Plotnikow in the final. Nevertheless, it was not he, but Velikton Barannikov who was sent to the European Championship in 1965.
