Boris Samuilowitsch Mitjagin

Boris Samuilowitsch Mitjagin ( Russian Борис Самуилович Митягин , English transcription Boris Samuel Mityagin ; born August 12, 1937 in Voronezh ) is a Russian-American mathematician.

Mitjagin received his doctorate in 1961 under Georgi Evgenjewitsch Schilow at Lomonosov University and qualified as a professor in 1963 (Russian doctorate). He was at the Central Economic Institute of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. In 1979 he became a professor at Ohio State University .

He deals with functional analysis and mathematical physics (spectrum of Schrödinger and Dirac equations).

In 1966 he was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Moscow (with A. Pelczynski : Nuclear operators and approximative dimension).

In 1960 he received the Moscow Mathematical Society Prize . He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
