Boris Tichonowitsch Koschewnikow

Boris Kozhevnikov Tichonowitsch ( Russian Борис Тихонович Кожевников ; born November 30 . Jul / 13. December  1906 greg. In Novgorod , Russian Empire , †  8. April 1985 in Moscow ) was a Russian composer and conductor .

Life

He completed his studies at the Institute for Music and Drama in Kharkiv , Ukraine , in the subjects of composition with Semjon Bogatyrjow and conducting; He graduated there in 1933. Then he went to the Military Music Academy in Moscow .

In 1940 he became a lecturer at the Moscow Conservatory . He was also the conductor of several orchestras in Moscow theaters.

His compositions are well known in Russia and the neighboring successor states of the Soviet Union . His name is hardly known in the West. He wrote over 70 works for wind orchestra.
