Berwick-upon-Tweed was a district with borough status in Northumberland in England . The administrative seat was the city of the same name Berwick-upon-Tweed . In addition, the district included some small villages in the area such as Bamburgh , Belford , Norham , Ord and Wooler and the island of Lindisfarne .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of Borough Berwick-upon-Tweed and the rural districts of Belford, Glendale and Norham and Islandshires. On April 1, 2009, in addition to Berwick-upon-Tweed, all other districts in Northumberland were abolished and combined into a single unitary authority.
