The Bortnetunnel ( Norwegian Bortnetunnelen ) is a single-tube road tunnel in the course of Fylkesvei 616 in the municipality of Bremanger in the province ( Fylke ) Vestland , Norway . It connects the village of Bortnen in the north with the north shore of the lake Sørdalsvatnet, about 8 km northeast of the municipality seat Svelgen , in the south.
The 4,758 meter long tunnel was built between 2010 and 2013 and opened to traffic in May 2013. He was part of the project, the islands of Bremangerlandet and Frøya through several smaller bridges between Frøya and Bremangerlandet, the 1902 m long Skatestraumtunnel under the Skatestraumen between Bremangerlandet and Rugsundøya, the 302 m long Rugsundbrua over the Rugsundet between Rugsundøya and the mainland and finally the Bortnetunel with Svelgen, and was the second and final part of this project. After commissioning of the Bortnetunnels was ferry service across the Frøysjøen - Sound of Smørhamn on Bremangerlandet after Kjelkenes on the mainland abandoned (about 8 km west of Svelgen).
Since the tunnel runs under Lake Vingevatnet and east of the 940 m high Vingekvarven mountain, it was called the Vingetunnel during the planning and construction period. When the name was finally given, it was named Bortnetunnel at the request of the Bremanger municipality, and the older and shorter previous Bortnetunnel was renamed the Holnestunnel.
