Borys Petrowytsch Melnyk ( Ukrainian Борис Петрович Мельник ; born February 2, 1945 in Vinnytsia , Ukrainian SSR ; † November 24, 2016 in Israel ) was a Soviet sports shooter from Ukraine .
successes
Borys Melnyk took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and 1976 in Montreal . In 1972, like Lones Wigger, he achieved the best result of the competition in the three-position fight with the free rifle with a total of 1155 points. The decision brought the last series of shots in the kneeling position, in which Wigger prevailed with 97 points, as Melnyk only got 96 points and thus received the silver medal. At the 1976 Games he played with the small-bore rifle in the prone position, but did not get past twelfth place with 591 points.
1970 Melnyk was in Phoenix with the free rifle team event in the kneeling stop world champion and runner-up in the team competitions with the Free Rifle in the standing position, in the prone position and three-position competition. In 1974 he secured four more silver medals in Thun : he again took second place in the standing position, in the lying position and in the three-position fight in the team competition with the free rifle, as well as with the team with the army rifle in the three-position fight. Melnyk was first in 1969 in Pilsen with the standard rifle in three-position combat and three years later in Belgrade with the air rifle European champion. In addition, he secured a further seven European Championship titles in team competitions.
Melnyk was a major in the Soviet Army . After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he became the coach of the Ukrainian national sport shooting team. In the 2000s he emigrated to Israel , where he died on November 24, 2016.
