The prickly-haired Bosnian hound - Barak ( Bosanski Oštrodlaki Gonič - Barak; Босански Оштродлаки Гонич - Барак) is a breed of dogs from Bosnia recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.2, Standard No. 155 ). The breed is under the patronage of the FCI, as there is no partner organization of the FCI in Bosnia and Herzegovina .
Origin and history
The Barak is a hound and is descended from local beats and greyhounds from the Mediterranean area. The mixture resulted in a well-adapted, robust breed that had been bred in Bosnia since about the nineteenth century. The breed was registered in 1965 as the Illyrian Hound (Ilirski Gonič) by the FCI, the name was changed in the current standard to the graver-haired Bosnian Hound - Barak (Bosanski Oštrodlaki Gonič - Barak).
description
The Barak is a very tough and persistent dog , it can grow up to 56 cm tall and weigh 24 kg. The wiry, rough, longer coat protects him from the rigors of the weather. As a typical working dog breed, much more emphasis was placed on usability than on looks. The ears are set medium high, medium long and wide, drooping and a little thick, thinner towards the tip and rounded at the end.
use
He is a hunting dog and a good guard dog without being snappy.
