The Bosna spring ( Serbo-Croatian  Vrelo Bosne / Врело Босне ; pronunciation: [ ʋrê.lo bôs.neː ]) is the karst spring of Bosna in Bosnia and Herzegovina embedded in a public park . The source and park are located in the municipality of Ilidža in the Bosnian canton of Sarajevo , about 15 kilometers west of Sarajevo's city center .

history

The Bosna spring is one of the most important natural sights in Bosnia and an important recreational area for the people of Sarajevo. The park has around 60,000 visitors every year.

The Roman bridge in Ilidža, built between 1530 and 1550, is located near the source . The current Ottoman bridge was built on the remains of a former Roman bridge that connected the Aquae Sulphurae settlement . During the Bosnian War , most of the trees in the park were used as firewood for the population. In 2000 the park was restored to its original state. The Bosna spring and the surrounding park were declared a natural monument in 2006 .

The water from the Bosna spring is safe to drink, but not recommended.

The park can be visited on foot or by bike. You can also be transported by horse-drawn carriage along the main path (“Velika aleja”). The plane tree avenue was laid out in 1880 by the Austro-Hungarian administration.

There are two cafes and restaurants in the park, as well as a playground.
