Botanica. The ABC of plants. 10,000 species in text and images , Botanica for short , is a plant lexicon with over a thousand pages . The richly illustrated work contains descriptions and cultivation tips for around 10,000 plant species.

Original edition

The English-language original edition is entitled Botanica. The Illustrated AZ of Over 10,000 Garden Plants . The work was published by Random House in Australia and edited by Gordon Cheers . In the United States, it was published by Richard G. Turner, Jr. and Ernie Wasson .

The chief advisor to the plant was Tony Rodd . Technical advisors were Geoff Bryant from New Zealand, Lynton Johnson from South Africa, Barbara Segall from Great Britain and Richard G. Turner Jr. and Ernie Wasson from the United States.

The work has been translated into several languages.

The German edition with the title Botanica. The ABC of plants. 10,000 types in text and images comprises 1019 pages in the 2000 edition; it was published by the company Könemann Verlagsgesellschaft mbH in Cologne , which belongs to Tandem Verlag GmbH .

The translation from English was done by Natascha Afanassjew, Thomas Batinic, Marita Döring, Jutta König, Hans W. Kothe, Barbara Rusch, Cristoforo Schweeger, Martina Unger and Astrid Wetzel for GAIA Text in Munich.

Technical advisors for the German edition were Michael Burkart and Michael Ristow .

The Botanica contains more or less concise plant descriptions for 10,000 different plant species that are or could be of importance for horticultural culture. The plant species are sorted alphabetically according to their scientific names. Information is given on the type of growth, appearance, distribution, cultivation, reproduction, diseases and cultivated forms. There are also superordinate generic articles.

The book is very richly illustrated; However, details of the author's abbreviations for the botanical names or synonyms are missing.
