Thohoyandou Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden Thohoyandou ( English Thohoyandou Botanical Garden ) is a state botanical garden of South Africa in the Limpopo province . It is the first scientific and botanical institution in this province, also the eleventh and thus the youngest under the direction of the South African National Biodiversity Institute .
Plant communities of the savannah biome Soutpansberg Mountain Bushveld are mainly represented on the 89 hectare area in Thohoyandou . The botanical garden, which is still under construction, represents the region of the Vhembe Biosphere Reserve , which is home to a large number of endemic plants that are worthy of protection. The distinctive species in this area include Aloe soutpansbergensis , Aloe vossii , Huernia nouhuysii , Stapelia clavicorona and Vangueria soutpansbergensis .
The landscape of the Soutpansberg forms the northernmost mountain range on South African territory and extends over a length of about 210 kilometers from the west into the Kruger National Park .
