from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Botho Franz Wolfgang von Trotha (born April 22, 1853 in Kulm , West Prussia , † March 5, 1929 in Düsseldorf ) was the first mayor of the city of Sterkrade .

Life

Botho Franz Wolfgang von Trotha was born on Gut Rybienitz in Kulm, West Prussia. On April 1, 1886, he became the first mayor of the newly independent town of Sterkrade. During his tenure, the Sterkrad town hall was built and the savings bank was founded. Von Trotha was a sponsor of the two daily newspapers, the Sterkrader Volksblatt (since 1892) and the Sterkrader Zeitung (since 1897). Above all, he campaigned for the incorporation of the surrounding districts so that Sterkrade could become an independent urban district, which only succeeded for a short time after his resignation. Another concern was the Protestant church building in town. For example, he made the plot of land on which the Evangelical Church Kempkenstrasse in Schmachtendorf is located today available from his private possession.

Von Trotha married on October 4, 1886 in Aurich Else Marianne Johanna Henriette Valeska Poelmann (born August 25, 1852 in Minden ; † July 30, 1922 in Düsseldorf ), the daughter of Minden's Lord Mayor Philipp Heinrich Poelmann and his wife Auguste Rex. Von Trotha already suffered from various illnesses during his tenure, so that he had to interrupt his work several times and he finally resigned in 1905. Von Trotha died in Düsseldorf in 1929.

Trivia

The von Trotha Street in Oberhausen Schwarze Heide was named in 1985 after him. Botho von Trotha is not directly related to Lothar von Trotha (1848–1920).
