Boursin

Boursin is a manufacturer's brand of the French Bel Group and is the name of a double cream cheese made from cow's milk enriched with cream and having a fat content of 70% in the dry matter . Production area is Normandy .

Boursin was invented in 1957 by the French cheese merchant François Boursin from Croisy-sur-Eure . The cheese has been commercially available in its current form since 1963. Actor Jacques Duby promoted the product in the first television commercial , which was shown on French television ( TF1 ) in 1968 . The advertising slogan Du pain, du vin, du boursin ("Bread, Wine, Boursin"), which has been used since the 1972 campaign and which has also been used on non-French channels, is now considered a classic in the advertising industry. The slogan created by the head of the Paris agency Publicis Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet increased the sales of François Boursin tenfold in seven years.

According to the manufacturer, Boursin became “Number 1 in France and a synonym for cream cheese with herbs”. The Bel Group bought the brand and the manufacturing plant in November 2007 for 400 million euros from the Unilever Group. The plant in Pacy-sur-Eure in Normandy, operated by the Société de la Fromagerie Boursin , employs 170 people.

Boursin is a double cream cheese. Unlike many of our competitors, only the basic cheese mass is pasteurized . The ingredients (for example herbs) are only added after pasteurization, which means that their own taste is retained. The cheese has a rather low water content for cream cheese and does not require any maturing time.

In Germany, Boursin is offered in three flavors: " Garlic & Fine Herbs", " Pepper " and " Chives & Shallot ". The selection varies depending on the country, for example "Chives & shallots" is not on offer in Switzerland, but "Tomatoes, Onions & Chives" and "Figs & 3 types of nuts".
