The first zero-energy balance hotel in Vienna

The Boutique Hotel Stadthalle is a hotel in the 15th Vienna district Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus . As the “world's first city hotel with a zero energy balance”, it was awarded the EU eco-label.

The main building of the Viennese hotel was expanded in 2009 to include a passive house extension with a zero energy balance . The new part of the hotel was designed as a separate structure. The two buildings are only connected in the basement and on the ground floor. Controlled heating and cooling take place thanks to a concrete core activation : plastic pipes through which the energy carrier medium water circulates were laid in the solid ceilings and walls. An in-house groundwater well supplies both the cooling energy and the heat pump system . This is used to generate the energy for the heating and ventilation system. The energy for hot water is generated with solar panels. The 84 m² photovoltaic system supplies the electricity. The rainwater is used to flush toilets and water the garden.
