Bouwer (sometimes also spelled Bower ) is a small town in the province of Cordoba in central Argentina . It is located three kilometers south of the city limits to the provincial capital Córdoba itself on the railway line between Córdoba and Río Cuarto , in the Santa María department .
Bouwer is best known as the location of the main prison in the Gran Córdoba metropolitan area .
population
Bouwer has 625 inhabitants in the center of the place ( INDEC , 2001). If you add the population of the prison, the population increases to 2,125 (also 2001).
The place consists of three clearly defined parts. The actual town center in the west is rural. To the east of this is a loosely built-up area that stretches along the Camino San Carlos , the extension of an important main street in Córdoba, where there are mainly villas with large park areas, but also farms. Four kilometers west of the town center, on Ruta 36, is the closed residential complex Alto del Durazno , one kilometer south of which is the prison.
Economy and Infrastructure
In addition to a few small farms, the prison is the most important economic factor in the place. This has around 1,500 inmates and is one of the safest and most modern prisons in the country. The most important junkyard in the metropolitan area is also located in Bouwer.
Bouwer is one of the few places outside the urban area of Córdoba that is served by a city bus from that city, the A9 line .
