The Boxberger Neumann Monument

The Boxberger Neumann memorial is located in the rose garden in Bad Kissingen , the major district town of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen . It belongs to the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian Monument List under the number D-6-72-114-270 .

history

In 1938 the sculptor Fried Heuler from Albertshausen (now part of Bad Kissingen) created a limestone statue donated by the Kraft family from the Boxberger house with a representation of the Kissingen pharmacist Georg Anton Boxberger and the Würzburg master builder Balthasar Neumann . 200 years earlier, Boxberger and Neumann had discovered the Kissinger healing springs Rakoczy and Pandur while relocating the course of the Saale.

Since Heuler's war memorials during the First World War did not fit into the worldview of the National Socialists and Heuler was therefore subject to a restricted professional ban, he was only able to make the plaster model for the Neumann-Boxberger monument; the actual execution was entrusted to the Bad Kissingen sculptor Ludwig Metz. The statue was originally in the middle of the rose garden and was later moved to the side of the Balthasar-Neumann-Promenade .

Local historian Edi Hahn says this statue is the only monument to Balthasar Neumann; Even in his hometown of Eger there is no monument to the builder.
