Balthasar Boytin

Balthasar Boytin , also Balzar, Balczar, Baltzar, Baltzer, Balzer; Boythin (*?; † 1484) was mayor of Berlin in 1449/1450 . He is best known for his role in Berlin's indignation .

In the conflict, Boytin was at the head of the small party that supported the electoral sovereign in the Berlin council against the citizens. He had to flee the city temporarily because he feared for his life. Outside the city, he and his loyal followers occupied and plundered localities that belonged to citizens of Berlin and Cölln . After the rebellion was put down, Frederick II ("Eisenzahn") rewarded him for his loyal and diligent service , including the office of mayor of Berlin, which he only exercised in 1449/1450. After the abdication of Frederick II in 1470, Boytin remained in the favor of his successor Albrecht Achilles . In 1476 Boytin was mentioned as an electoral councilor.

Boytin belonged to the later noble family von Boytin, after whom Boytinstraße is named in Hamburg . Johannes Boytin, canon in Lübeck , bought the Trenthorst manor in the Stormarn district in 1372 . In the 17th century, the von Boytins sat among other things as landlords in Löwenbruch, south of Berlin.
