Bréguet - Sabin is an underground station on line 5 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier de la Roquette in the 11th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the western lane of the Boulevard Richard-Lenoir , parallel to the Canal Saint-Martin , which runs under its broad median , between the Rue Saint-Sabin and the Rue du Pasteur Wagner.

Surname

It is named after the streets Rue Bréguet and Rue Saint-Sabin, which leave the Boulevard Richard-Lenoir. The Breguets were a family of watchmakers and industrialists. Abraham Louis Breguet (1747–1823) was a watchmaker in the French Navy; his grandson Louis Clément François Breguet (1804–1883) is among the others. a. as the inventor of the pointer telegraph in the Chappe system . Louis Charles Breguet (1880–1955) was one of the first French aircraft manufacturers and co-founder of the airline Air France .

Charles-Pierre Angelesme de Saint-Sabin was the magistrate of Paris in the second half of the 18th century .

history

On December 17, 1906, line 5 was extended from Place Mazas (since 1916: Quai de la Rapée ) to Lancry station (since 1946 Jacques Bonsergent ). The Bréguet - Sabin station was built in an open construction pit. It was put into operation on December 31, 1906, until then the trains ran without stopping.

description

In contrast to the elliptical cross-section, which is more common in Paris, the station has a horizontal metal ceiling. Longitudinal girders, which carry small vaults made of bricks, rest on iron support beams that are perpendicular to the direction of travel.

The station has two side platforms on two main tracks. The two entrances are on the western edge of the wide median of the Boulevard Richard-Lenoir, the northern one has the Art Nouveau decor designed by Hector Guimard .

vehicles

The Sprague-Thomson trains on line 5 were replaced from 1978 by vehicles from the MF 67 series , which were followed by MF 01 trains from 2011 .
